An illustration featuring a car parked by a forest’s edge. On the roof of the car sit two figures, one laying on their back and the other sitting up, both gazing at the sky and the sun sets out of frame. Next to the towering loblolly is a moon nestled behind the blanket of clouds.

A world wide open, after years trapped in that cavernous, terrible place.

Scene featuring these two taking a moment to come to terms with their bittersweet situation. On the one hand, something like freedom at long last. For now. On the other, they have to carry the knowledge of that thing lurking deep in the earth below and the powerlessness to do much about it. In the meantime, it doesn’t hurt to moon gaze from the roof of a “borrowed” station wagon.

On the more technical side, this piece utilizes some brushes I created for the STIPPLE BEAST pack, with a bit of flourish thanks to TGTS’s paper texture overlay. You can get more info on that ladder mentioned brush pack here.

This is part of a larger body of work that, as of this writing, does have a dedicated page! Though bare in mind it is still a work-in-progress. You can go down the rabbit hole here.

Just the lines.

And an alternative coloring.

Two sketches of a station wagon at two different angles, one colored. The sketches are labeled detailing the various brushes used to render the piece, including the Color Hard for the color, Line Solid for most of the linework, Drafter for the more pencil-like lines, and 1LR TX and 9RL TX for the stippled areas. Same as the above sketches, this time without color or labels.

And as one last bonus, some studies of the machine featured.
